Historians analyze primary source documents from the past to find insights for today. What if you took that same historical skill of analysis and applied it to a different kind of primary source document: your own past? What insights might you find for your life? Might it help you run your race and leap life's hurdles with greater strength? Story Spirituality™ does just that. It is a model of Christian spirituality that helps people exegete their life stories in order to gain valuable insights. It can be used in discipleship, spiritual formation, direction, small groups, and counseling. It engages the Biblical meta-narrative to provide a framework that shapes the understanding and effective living of one's life.
Story Spirituality™ is based on an exploration of the powerful narrative that runs through the Christian Scriptures and Church History. And it offers resources on LifeStory Exegesis™, a tool for exploring one's own life story. It combines skills from theology, history, literary criticism, film studies, and counseling to help you make clearer sense of your life. Drawing on her background in English Literature (B.A., Wellesley College), Theology (M.Div., Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary), and History (Ph.D., Cambridge University), Gwenfair Walters Adams designed and developed Story Spirituality™ and LifeStory Exegesis™. She has used the material with Cru staff and students, church retreats and small groups, and in teaching and mentoring hundreds of seminary students at Gordon-Conwell, where she is the Associate Professor of Church History and Director of the Masters of Arts in Spiritual Formation.
